1st pass terrain
This is a terrain that i built with UDK, it is just a general layout of what my racing course would look like. There's going to be 2 layers to this level, and mostly it would be set dress with rocks to give an impression of being underground in a cave.

3d vehicle
I chose to do a jeep cj for my vehicle, and I find the jeep very challenging to model, I have to scale its proportion down a little, its a little fat.

concept painting
we had to create a concept painting of our car racing on our track encountering your obstacle / aid. My theme is a underground cave filled with treasures, the environment is taken place in a cave and the outside of the cave are just desert with minimal civilization. I used a triadic color scheme.

Value study 2
This is the second value study, I would say it is a little better then the previous value study, I'm starting to get the hang of digital painting and using the wacom tablet. So the setting for my race course is in a cave with buried treasure.

value study
this is one of study of lighting for the concept painting that we had to do in class, I think its too dark, I might tweak a little, i'm still practicing on digital painting and i hope to improve in due time.

Race Design!
Theme: Treasure Hunter
Location: Desert with decent amount of rocks and mountains.
Time of Day: Cloudy Mid day/ Sunny afternoon/ Inside cave could be dark and dramatic.(2 lights to play with)
Color Scheme:

Outdoors super bright and super sunny/enter cave, dark, cold and dramatic.
Character:

Vehicle:

The theme of my character vehicle is a adventurous traveller, the treasure hunter needs a big, durable vehicle such as the jeep with off road's capabilities, able to install larger tires which will increase ground clearance. The treasure hunter goes to places people or sedan cars can't go, thus making the jeep a perfect companion.
Story:
The treasure hunter is racing along the deserts and he enters a cave where they are huge blocks of concrete, as he races into the cave of treasures, pillars would be falling, rocks would be tumbling. This element would allow the players to react to these obstacles.
Concept Statement:
Kicking ass and taking names.
Inspirational Image:

Stunt Design:
Things to make players stay on track:
-Huge Boulders
-explosive looking barrels
-blocks
-broken down horse drawn cart (3D 1)
Basic shape of race track:

My level will incorporate 2 different terrains, Desert and cave rocky type. The desert's lighting will be mid afternoon where its sunny and bright. Upon entering the cave, the light will change dramatically, it will give opportunity for contrast and keeps the map fresh. The map will also consist of different levels, The desert will be the upper floor, the cave would be like a underground civilization.

Smith The Treasure Hunter
This is the concept of a treasure hunter that I had to put together for 3d class, my professor said that its too indiana jones, I have to agree, I'm gonna change him up, lose the hat and the coat maybe.I was thinking maybe give him a nice shirt and spandex but still maintain the characteristics of a treasure hunter.

Stunt design!
I was thinking of stunts that I should include in the game that we are making for game design. Obstacles would include boxes, barrels, cones and flammable tanks. Stunts should include slopes that make the vehicle fly and go through a tunnel. To force players onto the slope, I could put a timed falling tree or timed falling barrel on high wooden sticks.
Everything is still really rough, will post more when things are final.STUNTS!!

I have always been a big fan of Jackass and their stunts and the link above is a video from Jackass. There was a stunt in the beginning of the video that I would love to incorporate in my game. Although the vehicle used was a jet ski, I can always change it into a car. He rode the jet ski up a slope and bash through bushes.
In a later part of the video, there was a a tree falling over. It could be one of the mechanics that forces the player to take the slope.

Grid
So its the start of spring semester and our first assignment for game design class was to do an analysis on a racing game. I picked Grid because of one mechanic which i was it was a really cool concept for a racing game. It was this function called flashback, flashback makes use of the instant replay to let you rewind the race up to a certain point, giving you another bite at the cherry and the ability of finishing your game without having to start from the very beginning again. I think its a very good feature of the game. I must say the damage that the car does is very very realistic and i love it! the smoke from the drifting tires are better then the ones in need for speed.
